John Haseldine was born in Bedford. He married Ellen who was a midwife, born in Dublin, Ireland. In the 1871 census he is a soldier based at the new military barracks in Alverstoke, Hampshire. A son Henry (age 9) is listed as born in Poona, India. A daughter (age 5) Georgiana is born in ??Vumacku?? A daughter (age 1) Lucina is born in Mhow - Military headquarters of Western India. So he must have been in India 1860-1870. He often uses Hazeldine as a surname as did all of his children. He is found in the 1881 census living at 23 Wood Street, Newton with Ellen his wife and daughter Ellen age 3 who was born in Cork. Lucina is not listed - possibly she did not survive. Georgiana may have been working elsewhere at age 15. Their son Henry married Clara Drumond in 1882 John Hazeldine is found in the 1891 census living at 22 Wood Street, Newton, with Ellen his wife and daughter Ellen age 13 as well as grandson Henry age 7 (son of Henry then living in Leicester). According to the 1901 census, he and Helen were then living in Earlestown at 87 Earle Street.
