An Introduction to Satellite Image Interpretation

 Training Modules:

The following eight training modules will present some of the basic topics in weather satellite image interpretation. They can be completed in any order, however, some of the concepts in earlier modules will be used in later ones. Each module is adapted from a section or chapter in "An Introduction to Satellite Image Interpretation." This book and its accompanying CD-ROM will provide further treatment of each subject.

The images provided with each module come from a variety of sources, including the book, internet sources (which can be accessed via the links below), and direct readout stations operated by Maryland Space Grant Consortium teachers across Maryland.

Each module provides a page of text along with some in-line images to illustrate the text. The additional images can be downloaded as well and used for practice while learning the concepts. Some of the images are large (up to 500k) and may take time to download. If using these modules in a laboratory or instructional setting it may do to download the files in advance (or cache them) to limit waiting for them to load.
